Steve Duke is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned a
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
In his business career, he held a variety of roles in Fortune 100 aerospace companies, including engineering, business development, program management, and general management, where he was responsible for profit and loss of a $100MM high technology business. As an entrepreneur, he owned and sold a small marketing services business, and was a Chief Operating Officer for a start-up consumer products company.
Steve has a number of certifications to include Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) from the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), Accredited Business Intermediary (ABI) from the American Business Brokers Association (ABBA), Certified Mergers & Acquisitions Professional from Kennesaw State University. He has successfully completed his training for the Certified Business Exit Consultants™ (CBEC™) designation and Work the System Certified Business Systems Professional. Steve also has a North Carolina Real Estate License.
Steve is a member of a number of professional organizations including the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), the M&A Source, an organization for lower middle market intermediaries, the American Business Brokers Association (ABBA), the Carolinas Virginia Business Brokers Association (CVBBA). The CVBBA is our regional business brokers association, which affords opportunities for collaboration and further education. Steve is also a member of the CoreValue™ community. CoreValue™ is an MIT developed and proven methodology designed to help grow and improve the value of privately held businesses. He is also a member of the International Growth and Exit Planning Association. Steve contributes to his community by belonging to Innovate Charlotte, a business accelerator, where he acts as a mentor to early-stage businesses.
Steve has trademarked his own business growth process – Businessology™ (The Science of Growing Business Value and keeping more of it when you leave.) Work the System is a key element of Businessology™. Given that Steve works with businesses across their lifecycle from start-up to exit, he takes a holistic view of any business he works with. He sees firsthand the negative implications of not building a well-functioning business “machine” that can operate on a day-to-day basis without consuming the owner.
